Vehicles in Britain are subject to an annual MOT test.
For vehicles that come within the MOT scheme, testing is mandatory every year after the vehicle is three years old.
The current charge set by The Vehicle Inspectorate for an MOT is £55.00, but we charge £45.00 and have done for over 10 years. Our MOT’s are not discounted to get you through the door then hit you with a fail. We set our charge at £45.00 because we believe in being fair across the range of all our services. An MOT takes an average of 40 minutes, our labour rate, and equipment calibration charges are taken into consideration and then the cost of the MOT slot, which we have to purchase from the government. As a result, this is why we price our MOT at £45.00.
If your vehicle does fail it is because the vehicle has fallen below the minimum requirements of a safe roadworthy vehicle, set out by the Department of Transport. Therefore we must abide by the guidelines for your safety and for the safety of other road users and pedestrians. We’ve had an ongoing problem with one of our vans having an engine management light on initially the problem was a faulty turbo however a different garage had replaced it and still the engine management light was still on; we after numerous attempts at fixing the issue we decided to take the van to a Mercedes specialist in Kidsgrove who also was unable to fix the engine management light; I was on my way to AA Silencers for a separate reason and I thought I’d let them have a crack at it and I was pleasantly surprised with the results; I called them the next day when they’d had maybe 5-6 total to work on it expecting to get a rough time on when it would be ready for pick up and too my surprise they said we’ve found and rectified the problem which turned out was an incorrect installation of the replacement turbo. Still absolutely over the moon as I was expecting to be spending another £1000 or so to find the problem. Will definitely be switching all the serving to these guys because they really know there way around the higher end cars & vans (Mercedes)
